Rubber process Oil ( RPO)
It is an oil-based product with a kinematic viscosity at 100°C ranging between 32 and 50 cSt and contains less than 3% polynuclear aromatic compounds. Rubber process oil is primarily used in the production of rubber materials, especially aromatic rubbers.
Rubber process oils are widely applied across multiple industries and are recognized as environmentally friendly products. They are available in various high-quality grades designed for manufacturing both natural and synthetic rubber products.
During the mixing of rubber compounds, these oils enhance filler dispersion and improve the flow properties of the material, resulting in better processing and performance.
Rubber process oils are generally categorized into three main groups based on the structural arrangement of their carbon atoms, namely:
| Type | Description | Common Applications |
|---|---|---|
| Aromatic Base | Dark in color and highly compatible with most rubber polymers. | Automobile tires, tread rubber, conveyor belts, automotive components, and floor mats (where color is not a concern). |
| Paraffinic Base | Light in color, broad viscosity range, with higher aniline and flash points. | Butyl tubes, EPDM-based rubber products (profiles, hoses), and various automotive components. |
| Naphthenic Base | Excellent color stability, solubility, and thermal stability. | Footwear, LPG tubes, hot water bags, molded and extruded rubber goods. |
Rubber Process Oils are generally classified into two main grades based on their viscosity: Light and Heavy.
Light Grade (Low Viscosity): Oils with a viscosity range of 20–30 cSt, ideal for use in colder climates or seasons, where lower viscosity ensures better flow and processing.
Heavy Grade (High Viscosity): Oils with a viscosity range of 30–50 cSt, best suited for warmer climates or seasons, providing enhanced stability under high temperatures.
Overall, Rubber Process Oil is recognized as a safe and environmentally friendly material used across various rubber manufacturing applications.
